Hell Bay Hotel Leads Record Awards Haul For Scilly
Isles of Scilly businesses have scooped a record seven awards at last night’s Cornwall Tourism Awards, held in Newquay.
Hell Bay Hotel led the charge, winning Gold in the Hotel of the Year category for the fourth year running.
Silvers were picked up by Juliet’s Garden, for Café & Tearoom of the Year and the World Pilot Gig Championships for Event of the Year.
Winning Bronze were Carnwethers Country House Cottages in the Sustainability Award, Tresco Spa in the Spa & Wellbeing Experience Award, Teania St Martin’s in the Self Catering Accommodation Award and Karma St Martin’s for Dog Friendly Business of the Year.
The Visit Isles of Scilly Tourist Information Centre was Highly Commended.
The number of winners from Scilly is even more remarkable, given the high number of entries this year – there were 195 entries in 25 different categories.
David Jackson, the Executive Director of the Islands’ Partnership, said: “In the 15 years since the Cornwall Tourism Awards were launched, this was Scilly’s biggest ever haul, testimony to the islands’ growing confidence in delivering a fantastic tourism product.”
“We truly hope, and believe, that our success this year – some by Scilly-based businesses who initially might not have considered putting themselves forward – will be the catalyst for even more accommodation providers, attractions and experiences to enter next year and beyond.
“It was a great night for the islands and a wonderful way to wrap up an excellent season.”
The successful finalists will go forward to the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, being held in February 2017.
