Record Number Of Island Businesses Up For Cornwall Tourism Awards

cornwall-tourism-award-2016Scilly has a record seven nominations in this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards.

Island businesses and organisations vying for Gold, Silver or Bronze awards at the Headland Hotel in Newquay on Thursday 3rd November, include Juliet’s Garden in the Café & Tearoom of the Year category, Karma St Martin’s Hotel for Dog Friendly Business of the Year and Hell Bay Hotel on Bryher – the third consecutive year it’s been nominated for Hotel of the Year.

Other contenders are Teania on St Martin’s in the Self-Catering Property of the Year category, Tresco Spa, Carnwethers Country House Cottages for Sustainable Tourism and the World Pilot Gig Championships for Tourism Event of the Year.

In addition, the Isles of Scilly Tourist Information Centre was Highly Commended in this year’s selection process.

Hell Bay Hotel has won the Gold Award two years running and has gone on to represent Scilly at the VisitEngland awards.

Juliet’s and Tresco Spa are also previous Cornwall Tourism Award winners.

David Jackson, Executive Director of Islands’ Partnership, who have supported the businesses entering this year’s awards, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many finalists from Scilly this year – testament to the truly exceptional visitor experience that Scilly offers. Good luck to all of our finalists on the 3rd November. Let’s hope it’s a great night for Scilly.”

Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism who runs the awards programme commented: “The Isles of Scilly have really punched above their weight this year, a reflection of the ever increasing quality of the leading tourism businesses on the islands.

“Having seven finalists – more than ever before – and a highly commended entry in this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards is a real coup, and all concerned are to be warmly congratulated.”
