Half Marathons Around St Mary’s Will Raise Funds For Syrian Refugees

aleppoA Cornwall-based charity ambassador is running two half marathons around St Mary’s to help refugees.

James Overton is the Cornwall Ambassador for the Refugee Aid Network and he announced recently his plan to buy an ambulance to send to Syria for use a mobile hospital.

He still wants to do that and name the vehicle ‘Nornour’ after the Scilly gig, but James says that medical items are required urgently, so he’s concentrating on collecting much-needed goods for dispatch.

James has also put together an Amazon ‘wish list’ that works in the same way as a wedding gift list.

He’s hoping that both islanders and visitors coming over for the World Pilot Gig Championships this weekend will go online to buy some of the essentials that will be used to help people affected by the Syrian civil war.

Items on the list include hypodermic needles, sterile eyewash and stretchers.

James has experience in long-distance running events and he entered the Cardiff Half Marathon and an ‘ultra-marathon’ in 2014.

He’s set to run circuits of the coast path this Thursday, 28th April, and again a week later on 5th May.
