Scilly’s Celebrity Sergeant To Headline New Arts And Culture Festival

Colin TaylorScilly’s celebrity Police Sergeant, Colin Taylor, has been booked as the headline act at the islands’ new Arts and Culture Festival.

The event has been organised by the Islands’ Partnership and replaces Art Scilly Week, which has lost some of its initial momentum in recent years.

On the 13th May Colin will meet visitors and locals as he shares funny tales of his life and work on the islands.

The talk will preview and promote his forthcoming book, The Life of a Scilly Sergeant.

Zoe Parry, the events manager for the IP and Radio Scilly’s new owner, says that Colin’s session will be one of many highlights in a packed programme of artistic workshops, literary talks and cultural experiences across the islands.

“Scilly has been a source of inspiration to writers, artists and craftspeople for generations. We can’t wait to welcome new and returning visitors to what will be a very special programme of events showcasing our rich and diverse creativity,” Zoe says.

Another festival highlight will be the chance to join former St Martin’s resident, artist Sue Lewington, on a sketching walk. Sue is well known for her published sketchbooks of Scilly and Cornwall.

You’ll also have an opportunity to walk between the islands of Tresco and Bryher on the low tide.

Colin’s talk will take place at the Star Castle Hotel on Friday 13th May at 2pm.

His new book based on his life and police work on Scilly will be published by Century, part of Penguin Random House, on 16th June.

The full programme of events will be available soon from the Islands’ Partnership.
