Major US Newspaper Recommends Scilly Beach and Ice Cream
The Wall Street Journal is suggesting that its readers discover Scilly.
The prestigious newspaper has featured the islands in an article called ‘Four More Under-the-Radar Beaches.’
In the report, writer Kate Maxwell suggests “generally mob-free’ destinations.
Tresco’s Pentle Bay is recommended along with beaches at Bathsheba in Barbados, Long Island in the USA and Menorca.
The report says that visiting the islands on the three-hour “bumpy” Scillonian crossing is worth it for Scilly’s, “wild, bone-white beaches, often without a soul on them in high summer and the improbably turquoise, if chilly, sea.”
The piece also commends the islands’ fish and chips and “shoe-sized” pasties, while the writer says Scilly also offers, “possibly the best ice-cream in England.”
WSJ readers are told that “all of the six islands in the archipelago are part of Prince Charles’ Duchy of Cornwall private estate” and it is suggested that they should stay on Tresco, which has “the area’s best accommodations.”
This week American TV viewers have also seen a segment promoting Scilly by US travel reporter Karen Schaler.
Her ‘Travel Therapy’ series offered people watching New York’s WABC-TV a quick overview of Scilly, Cornwall, Bristol and Bath, described as hidden gems.
Karen featured her Scilly trip on social media and visited Robert Francis’ Holy Vale Vineyard.
She also recommended Salakee Farm Duck, which she ate during her stay at the Star Castle Hotel.
