Chance To Have Your Say On Health And Social Care

Islanders will have their chance to tell NHS bosses what kind of health and social care they expect for the future at a public meeting and a question and answer session on 22nd March.

Similar events have already been held in Cornwall. They’re being arranged because both NHS and Council management need to put together a 5-year health and social care plan for Cornwall following the government decision to devolve these powers to the county.

In a statement, the Council of the Isles of Scilly writes that the objective is to, “improve health and wellbeing and provide seamless services for residents.”

They’re also seeking ideas on how money could be saved so budgets go further.

Cllr Fran Grottick is currently chairing the Council’s Community Services committee, which oversees healthcare and Park House.

She says that there are issues that make the provision of health and care services “a particular challenge” for Scilly.

But Fran says: “It is our desire to ensure that older people have choice and control to remain independent and supported within their island community.”

Future adult social care provision is one of the most discussed issues in Scilly currently.

The Council has commissioned a report on the future of Park House but Cllr Gordon Bilsborough disagreed with the scope of the options analysis.

He didn’t want the potential for closure of the residential home to be assessed as an option at all.

There will be two Q&A panel discussions at 1-2pm and 6-7pm, with drop-in sessions from 2-6pm on 22nd March in the Council Chamber.

I am afraid you will have to be quick, as the survey finishes on the 25th March.
The meeting was told there will be further engagement with the community and meanwhile do keep in touch with your Councillors (or fill in a comment form at the Town Hall)
This really does affect us all, though I do know it is a busy time of year.
    Happy Easter, Regards Fran 422424

I hope to see as many fellow islanders as possible at this event and look forward to hearing their views on Tuesday.
I think the posters have the event at the Old Wesleyan Chapel, I will check this is correct .
Please also note that on Monday 21st, the day before, at the Old Wesleyan Chapel, at 5.30pm to 7pm, is the Question and Answer Session held every six months. The Chairman, Chief Executive and some other Councillors will be there.
