Scilly’s Sergeant To Publish Memoirs

sergeant colin taylor 2014The memoirs of Scilly’s current police sergeant, Colin Taylor, are to be published this June.

Sgt Taylor has picked up a huge following on Facebook, with over 54,000 people regularly flocking to read his witty anecdotes about life and policing on the islands.

Now Colin has been offered a book deal with a hardback edition set to be published this June and a paperback following in 2017.

Editor Ajda Vucicevic from the publishing house Century says the book will chart Colin’s arrival on the island and his work keeping the streets safe.

It will also recall some of his favourite incidents, such as resuscitating goldfish and dealing with drunken anchor thieves.

Ajda says Colin is “a natural born writer, with a real eye for comedic story-telling.” And she says the book promises to be “a warm and charming account of life in the Scilly archipelago.”

Colin says he’s, “overwhelmed that Century are going to commit my exploits as a police officer on Scilly to print.”

He’s spent the last five years leading the police team on the islands and is set to return to a mainland-based role in the summer.

    Bad news and good news.

Always thought he was capable of better things than policing.

How is being a writer better than serving the community, surely its just different?
