‘Taste Of Scilly’ Food Festival To Launch Next Autumn
David Jackson from the Islands’ Partnership says it’s something the organisation has wanted to do from the start.
And while the Tresco and Bryher Food Festival spans a single weekend, the ‘Taste of Scilly’ event is likely to run for at least three weeks in September.
David says they’ve taken inspiration from ‘Tennerfest’ on Jersey, which runs throughout October and early November and where many restaurants on the island offer a menu for £10, or a tenner.
David says people in the tourism industry have told him that’s been very successful at driving demand in the off-peak season.
And he’s hoping that Scilly’s food and drink businesses will be able to come up with similar creative offerings under the ‘Taste of Scilly’ umbrella.
That could include pop-up restaurants, special local produce markets, taster evenings, master classes and children’s activities.
David says having a longer festival celebrating Scilly’s food also allows more visitors to take part and plan their trips around attending the events.
He says more details will be released when they’ve been firmed up in January with a full programme going out in the spring.
