MP Offering Chance To Pitch Scilly Produce In The Commons
If you have a Scilly food or drink business, or if you sell local goods, you’re being offered the chance to pitch your product to potential London buyers in the House of Commons.
Islands’ MP Derek Thomas is arranging an event to “celebrate what we do in the far South West” within the House of Commons on 8th March.
It’s designed to maximise the potential of GWR’S new rail freight service.
The trial launched last month and it enables producers to send Scilly seafood or perishables to the capital quickly.
Produce will be transferred from the Gry Maritha to a chilled train compartment at Penzance and taken straight to London.
Derek says his team is currently writing to potential businesses that could benefit from the service, asking them to put the date in their diary. People can also contact him directly.
Derek says he wants to make sure businesses have “the best opportunity to earn good money from their work” and he says buyers in London like products from the islands.
He’s booked three large rooms in the Commons for the meet and greet event, where Business Minister Sajid Javid will also say a few words.
You can contact Derek at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to take part.
