Incinerator Demolition Delayed Into Next Year

Another demolition project on the islands is being delayed. This time it’s the incinerator at Moorwell.

It’s been a year since the 1978-built facility closed down and plans to remove it in August were derailed when nesting birds were found within the structure.

At the time Cllr Steve Sims said he was “bemused’ that starlings could cause the hold-up.

At Tuesday’s Full Council meeting Cllr Gordon Bilsborough wanted to know what was happening as the site clearance was meant to be completed by Christmas.

Cllr Ted Moulson said it was because of bad weather, which is preventing the dispatch of a specialist elevated work platform from Plymouth.

Ted says the workforce is already dismantling the structure and they’ll continue to do as much as they can until the cherry picker arrives on the islands.

He was unable to say when the incinerator site will be entirely levelled.
