St Mary’s Harbour Update – 07 December
The storm boards at Porthloo remain in place and will stay as such. If the slip is required please contact the Harbour Office
As we approach winter we are experiencing more inclement weather and we advise anyone coming to the harbour to ensure they take care on the wet, and at times slippery, surface of the quay. We continue to try our best to ensure all passenger walkways are clear and useable.
Mooring maintenance has not progressed this week due to the poor weather.
The Gry Maritha continues her scheduled 3 trips per week to St. Mary’s along with the Lyonesse Lady delivering/collecting off Island goods/equipment. A copy of schedules for both vessels can be obtained from the harbour office or freight office upon request
We have removed a dead seal from Porthmellon beach today. Please feel free to alert the office of similar situations
SHIPPING AND QUAY EXTENSION (KIER)
There are just a few holes left to drill before the fenders can be fitted. Work will continue next week and it is hoped we will see the first of the fenders fitted.
There are no expected deliveries of materials this coming week
The 4 large moorings at Nut Rock, Innisidgen and behind the quay remain in place
4 of the 12 top slabs have now been poured and this work continues daily
Once the top slabs have been cast work will start to fit railings, lights and bollards
The steel pontoon sections remain – one of which is being used for the fendering works. In time they will be dismantled and sent back to the mainland
The crane at Porthloo is awaiting pick up by landing craft as weather allows
The widening works continue at a credible pace with the sewage tank now cast in place with concrete. The associated pump tank will be fitted next to this in the coming week and the area backfilled and compacted with materials from Porthloo
The final section of the wave wall has been fitted this afternoon and the concrete poured to tie the final westward section to the original structure
Access platforms on the seaward side are to be fitted to the new wave walls when weather/tides allow
The wave wall will be faced with the original granite blocks in time
Ticket Office/Check in:Electrical work has been carried out in this area. A heater and dehumidifier will be fitted in the coming days
Freight Office: Cabling work still to complete in this area
Chiller/Freezer: The chiller and freezer units are currently undergoing drying and cooling prior to completion. This will prevent any moisture freezing and causing problems to the new concrete. The roof is now complete and the majority of the scaffolding has been removed. Work will take place this weekend to pour the drainage channels around the structure
Freight Store: Work will take place this weekend to pour the drainage channels around the structure before the doors are fitted next week. This week has seen electrical works take place
Balcony:The decking is currently being fitted and will continue next week. When this is complete work will start on the underside of the structure
Staircase: No change since previous update
