Is St Martin’s Frogspawn The Earliest In UK?
A St Martin’s man reckons he’s found the first frogspawn of the new season in the entire country, here in Scilly.
Toby Tobin Dougan has up to thirty frogs living in the pond at the bottom of his garden.
The spawn usually appears at the end of November and he was concerned that it had not materialised until last week.
After checking comments on national wildlife forums it seems that Scilly is ahead of the mainland, where sightings in around eight weeks from now, in mid February, are considered very early.
If you’ve found earlier examples you can contact Toby through Radio Scilly.
