Scilly’s Judo Club Wins Clutch Of Medals At Nationals

judo club scilly 2015Scilly’s Judo Club has brought back a clutch of medals from last week’s British Judo Nationals.

Eleven young islanders travelled to Kettering on the 22nd November to represent the islands.

And they’ve done very well against competitors from all over the UK, including some from the national and international judo squads.

The club brought home five medals in total.

Zoe Hitchens won Gold in her category, while Coen Hughes gained the Silver at his first competitive event.

Bronze medals went to Katie Graham, Herbie St Pier and Layla Guy.

Lewis Taylor, who did well in October’s Cornish Championships, had to withdraw due to an injury.

And although Jack Austin won three of his four contests, he narrowly missed out on a medal.

Also representing Scilly were Isabella Taylor, Phin Austin, Jevan Hughes and Keith Guy.

Kirsty Graham says the standard of competitors was high and all the islands’ entrants fought well in their categories.

Kirsty says the trip was part-funded by the British Judo Council and she thanked Fay Guy and Sarah Taylor for accompanying the children to the mainland.
