Lifeboat Called To Tresco Jet Boat
Falmouth Coastguard say that the skipper of Lightning was the only person on board when it broke down near the Cow and Calf, just off Perconger quay on St Agnes.
They say he “did the right thing” by anchoring in the very rough sea conditions.
But the anchor wasn’t holding and the boat ended up drifting towards Gugh in the fresh to strong westerly wind.
The skipper called the Coastguard on VHF radio and an alert was issued to nearby vessels. The Gry Maritha remained nearby but could not get alongside.
St Agnes Coastguard were mobilised and they illuminated the area to assist in the rescue operation.
RNLB The Whiteheads, under the command of Stuart Hitchens, was launched at 5.25pm and reached Lightning at 5.38pm.
The volunteers put a line on board and the jet boat was towed back to St Mary’s, the operation being completed by 6pm.
