St Mary’s Harbour News 18th October

We’ve got this update for you from Alan at St Mary’s Harbour.

The Scillonian III has now dropped her Tuesday and Thursday sailings for the remainder of the season. She has three weeks left before her last visit of the year

The Gry Maritha is back in service after her scheduled dry docking

The moorings are starting to empty now with private and commercial vessels starting to appear at Porthloo-Please call the harbour staff at the office if you wish to make use of the park

Please could we remind mooring holders to remove strops when they are finished with the moorings for the year.

SHIPPING AND QUAY EXTENSION (KIER)

The shuttering for the final two ‘tie in’ pours for the extension are ready but need to be lifted into place. At this time Kier are awaiting deliveries of aggregates and cement to continue this part of the project-see below

All the fendering is now ready to be shipped to the site, they will start arriving next week

The landing craft ‘Morlander’ and ‘Severn Sins’ are working to deliver aggregates and cement to the site whilst removing plant and other equipment which is no longer needed. ISSCo vessels are also bringing goods where possible

·The four heavy moorings at Nut Rock, Innisidgen and behind the quay remain in place and will do for the foreseeable future. The lights on all these buoys have been replaced this week

QUAY WIDENING

The ground stabilisation part of the project has now been completed and the empty tank, currently situated at the back of the harbourside building, will be removed soon

Two of the three excavators have been removed by landing craft over the weekend whilst the third will assist in the remaining works

The first (of 12) foundation pour is now complete. This went well and the next one is scheduled for Tuesday. During these pours there will be some disruption to vehicular access to the working yard but this will be managed to allow all users the best access possible. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss. As the access ramp is rebuilt access to the yard should improve

Four pre cast blocks remain to be delivered and are due on site next week

KIER BUILDING

Ticket Office/Check in: Ready for handover

Freight Office: Ready for handover

Chiller/Freezer: Roof is now complete, awaiting cable run from freight office before fitting doors and outside machinery

Freight Store: All steelwork in place including column 6. Work continues on woodwork to the frame
