Scilly To Get Its First German Package Tours

busy hugh street with visitorsScilly will be getting its first package holidays targeting German speakers next season.

Truro-based UrlaubCornwall will be offering the breaks in partnership with the large German tour company Thoba Reisen.

The holidays are being specially tailored to overcome some of the obstacles faced by European travellers when trying to visit Scilly.

Managing Director Niall MacDougal, who has organised a number of holidays on the islands for German clients in recent years, says there were still barriers to converting more of their enquiries in to actual bookings.

Niall says the uncertainty around transport plays a part, as well as the additional costs.

The holidays will offer travel via Bristol Airport, and they’ll be rolling out both long and short-stay options over the next two months.

Niall says there’s a potential market of around 500,000 online visitors per year and he believes the overseas profile of Scilly, Cornwall and the wider South West is set to rise following an injection of £5m of funding by Central Government to boost tourism.

Residents of Austria, Germany and Switzerland make up around 50% of the overseas visitors to Cornwall and UrlaubCornwall is Google’s number one ranked online travel site for German speakers searching for information on the region.
