St Mary’s Business Wins ‘Taste Of The West’ Award

tanglewood quicheA St Mary’s food business has been recognised as having one of the tastiest products in the whole of the south west.

Tanglewood Kitchen, based at the Post Office in Hugh Town has been awarded a ‘Taste of the West’ award for their Vicky Anna hand picked crab and asparagus quiche.

The awards, now in their 22nd year, celebrate the best food and drink across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

And they faced stiff opposition this year.

In 2015, nearly 1,000 products and over 300 hospitality and retail establishments entered the awards, with an incredibly high standard being set for judges from which to select winners.

Tanglewood owner Euan Rodger said he and his wife Lindsay are delighted that their food has been recognised in this way.

He said it highlights the great Scilly-produced ingredients that they have at their disposal, including Parting Carn eggs and the Bennett’s Vicky Anna crab, which go into their award winning quiche.

The judges described the quiches as “simply beautiful, a really great product.”

They said every element of it was as good as the other – creamy, flavoursome, well-balanced and moreish “and the crab comes through very well indeed.”

Euan said that they’re really proud of this achievement.
