Scilly Named Best UK Destination In Family Traveller Awards

family traveller magScilly has been named the UK’s Best Domestic Destination in this year’s Family Traveller Magazine Awards.

The islands took first place against stiff competition from a shortlist of well-known and much larger destinations such as the Isle of Wight, Cornwall, Northumberland, Brighton and the Cairngorms.

The winner was chosen by a combination of an online vote and the opinions of a panel of judges, including TV presenter and journalist Mariella Frostrup, adventurer and travel writer Simon Reeve and Times travel editor, Jane Knight.

Islands’ Partnership Executive Director, David Jackson, attended the awards ceremony at the top of the Shard in London’s this evening.

After winning the award, he tweeted that he was “delighted” that Scilly has been declared the winner and thanked everyone who voted for us.

My favourite holiday destination in the UK. Sadly after years of visiting we have now been priced out and can no longer afford to visit although we’d love to. really hope to be able to return one day.

Stiff competition? Scilly has the key ingredient that nowhere else has – magic! There isn’t anywhere else we would even think about going. As Jeff says, I hope that many other families will discover the magic of Scilly for themselves.

I have been telling this fact to all and sundry for 47 years , since my first visit , but pleased to know I am not alone.
Well done to all concerned and I hope it leads to a continuing increase in visitor numbers to your beautiful Islands.
