St Mary’s Harbour Works Update For September 25th

GENERAL

Here’s the latest from Dale Clark and the St Mary’s Harbour team

There are no more Sunday sailings of the Scillonian this year and she now arrives at 1200 and departs at 1630 on Saturdays for the remainder of this year

The MTS vessel Grey Bear is conducting work to the sub-sea cables in Porthcressa and basing herself in St. Mary’s Harbour for the duration of the works

SHIPPING AND QUAY EXTENSION (KIER)

All Kier hired tugs and barges have now departed the Islands. The Polmear will remain to assist the Scillonian III and Gry Maritha

The landing craft Arromanches continues to make deliveries from Falmouth for Kier when weather allows.

The four heavy moorings at Nut Rock, Innisidgen and behind the quay remain in place and will do for the foreseeable future. Lights have been replaced and some of the mooring strops have been removed.

The dive platform is currently located in Old Quay after sustaining some damage out on the yacht grid. It will be broken down into 2 sections to be used as a work platform during the fender installation on the new quay section

The first of 6 concrete pours has been conducted and it is hoped that on Monday evening the 2nd pour will take place.

Grouting has been completed on the stairs on the end but some remains to be done on the staircase fitted to the berthing face

QUAY WIDENING

The delivery of the ground stabilisation equipment has been delayed due to machinery breakdown. It is hoped that different plant will be delivered to Falmouth by the end of next week for transportation to Scilly.

The ground stabilisation operation is expected to take 10-14 days

Most of the 6.5t blocks for the widening are now present on the Island.

Kier are currently working to create a timetable which will enable them to make the most of the tidal working window
