The St Mary’s Lifeboat has recovered a body from the sea.

The lifeboat was launched at 6pm on Wednesday evening after a French yacht reported seeing a person on the rocks near Round Island.

St Mary’s RNLI say the lifeboat proceeded to the area and have recovered a body from the west side of Tean.

The body was handed over to the Isles of Scilly Police and a formal identification will be carried out to confirm the identity of the deceased person.

The crew at St Mary’s Lifeboat Station says their thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased person.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says no formal identification has been made at this time, however the family of missing person Josh Clayton have been informed of the developments and enquiries continue.

An extensive search of the islands has been taking place since the 23-year-old estate worker went missing from Tresco in the early hours of Sunday 13th September.
