A consortium that includes the trust that runs Treliske hospital could be taking over St Mary’s hospital when the current provider Peninsula Community Health ends its contract in March next year.

The Health Service Journal is reporting that a trio, made up of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, mental health provider Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust and the GP federation Kernow Health, have expressed an interest in taking over the running of community hospitals in the region.

PCH, which has operated the services since 2011, have said they can’t continue because there isn’t enough money on offer.

Any new operator has been asked to come up with a model to deliver services in line with the Cornwall devolution deal announced this summer.

But it’s still unclear how Scilly’s health requirements will fit into this.

The government has said the islands need to start discussions separately.
