Dates For School’s Annual Careers Convention Announced

school signThe annual Five Islands’ School Careers Convention will be held on 1st October this year.

Organiser Penny Rogers says parents and pupils can expect the usual range of expert advisors who will be available to discuss options for further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Truro and Penwith College will come over and Careers South West is also attending along with the Armed Forces.

There’ll be islands-based professionals too, including the Duchy, Police, Island Vet Heike Dorn and representatives of hospitality and hairdressing businesses.

But Penny says they’re missing one key skill – she’d be keen to have a representative from the islands’ electricians attend the event.

Penny says the aim is to help students make an informed choice about their futures by putting as many options in front of them as possible.

She says the next steps aren’t always a straightforward choice and it’s perfectly okay for some students to take “the scenic route” to find their ideal career.

The sessions consist of a morning workshop then a chance to meet delegates after lunch.

In the evening parents can chat to the guests and that interaction can be invaluable, says Penny.
