No Decision Yet On New Operator For St Mary’s Hospital
A not-for-profit company, Peninsula Community Health, was formed in 2011 and currently runs the hospital.
But in July they announced they wouldn’t be applying for the contract again when it comes up for renewal next spring, as they can’t make a loss and there’s not enough money on offer.
Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group, the body that contracts health services providers in our region, held a board meeting on St Mary’s earlier this week.
Radio Scilly asked KCCG Chairman Iain Chorlton whether plans for our hospital’s future have been agreed.
He said no preferred bidder has been identified and there’s nothing more they can say at the moment.
Iain accepts that, “the timeline is tight” but he cannot envisage our hospital closing and he’s confident that there will be a service-provider in place from 1st April next year.
