Scilly Swim Challenge To Feature On TV

inter island swim 2013A BBC film crew will be on the islands for tomorrow’s Scilly Swim Challenge.

Cameras from the See Hear programme, which is made for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, will follow Ian Munday and Larisa Green from Somerset.

They are both deaf and are undertaking the 15km swim to raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Larisa’s father sadly died from the disease and the charity helped him and the family.

141 people will gather at Bar Point on St Mary’s at 7am tomorrow for the second of these swimming events.

3 groups of around 50 people will then swim to St Martin’s, Tresco, Bryher, Samson and St Agnes before returning to Porthcressa on St Mary’s.

The swimmers will be in the water this evening too. At 6pm they are having an acclimatisation swim at Porthmellon to get used to the water temperature.

Organisers Nick and Bryony Lishman and Dewi Winkle say that safety is paramount.

The participants will be supported by 8 boats and 27 kayakers.

The TV programme featuring Scilly will air on BBC2 at 8.15am on Wednesday 4th November.
