Star Castle’s Sustainable Produce Featured In Magazine

star castle garrisonScilly’s Star Castle Hotel is featured in a glossy seven-page spread in the travel section of the Royal Geographical Society’s monthly magazine.

The article, A Taste of Home, focuses on how hotel owner Robert Francis is sourcing as much food as possible sustainably from around the islands.

It includes photos of Robert checking vines at his Holy Vale vineyard and fishing on his boat, The Gallos.

“It’s not every hotelier who heads out to sea in waterproofs in all weathers to source his own lobsters,” says the article, adding “but Robert isn’t your average hotelier.”

The author describes IFCA Officer Daisy Kelly-Fletcher measuring the lobsters on board the boat to decide which will be thrown back because they’re too small.

And it gives a very favourable account of how well our fisheries are being managed, with the industry now an important part of our economy alongside tourism.

Editor Paul Presley told Radio Scilly that the magazine is planning to run a handful of features about Scilly on their website in the coming weeks, including reports on Tresco’s hedges, climate change and Manx shearwater.

You can read the article on the Star Castle in the September edition of Geographical magazine.
