Cricket: Off-Island Seniors Match On St Agnes

Sunday 23rd August was too good a day to miss with the sun shining from a beautiful blue sky so, although there was no match scheduled, the senior cricketers managed to put together two teams to play a 25 over match on St. Agnes.

A boat from St. Martin’s called in to Tresco to pick up some players and sped to St. Agnes.

The visitors batted first and D. & T. Goddard got off to a brisk start scoring 32 and 36 respectively. The pace slowed after their dismissal but proceeded at a steady pace to a total of 137 for 7. There was a 5-wicket haul for Jim.

A delicious tea was followed by the St. Agnes innings. They made a determined start with plenty of quick singles but it was not enough to keep them up with the required run rate; Sam Hicks top scored with a magnificent 61. They were all out tens runs short. Another Jim – J. Morton – also took 5 wickets.

All repaired to the Turk’s Head to cool off with a refreshing pint. Then the visitors took off home with the clouds starting to roll in.
