St Mary’s Café Shortlisted In Cornish Food Awards

juliets gardenA St Mary’s business has been shortlisted in this year’s Great Cornish Food Awards.

Juliet’s Garden is up against two mainland eateries in the ‘Great Cornish Café’ category.

Owner Juliet May says it’s “very exciting” to have been selected.

She feels that the business, which has been operating in Scilly for 32 years, stands out because of the friendliness and efficiency of the staff who work there, and because nothing is too much trouble for them.

And she says it’s important winning awards, to show staff just how good they are and how hard they work.

There are benefits to the business too. The restaurant won a Gold award in the Cornwall Tourism Awards in 2014.

Juliet says that’s featured on their website and the award is displayed in the café, alongside a photo of her “looking rather bemused between two terribly tall men” while receiving the prize.

But she says they’ll all need to be on their toes between now and September. They’re expecting a visit from “secret shoppers” who will sample the food and service on offer.

Juliet will find out whether they’ve won at the ceremony at Trelissick House, near Truro, on 21st of September.
