Fastnet Yacht Gets Tow From St Mary’s Lifeboat
It was a long evening for St Mary’s lifeboat crew yesterday.
They were called out in the afternoon to tow one of the yachts taking part in the Fastnet race back to Scilly for rudder repairs.
13 people were on board the 46 foot German yacht Shakti when it lost its steering around 47 miles northwest of Scilly.
The yacht crew’s temporary fix wasn’t effective so the relief lifeboat RNLB Osier was dispatched with Stuart Hitchens at the helm.
The RNLI volunteers left St Mary’s just before 4pm. Travelling at around 7 knots, the crew arrived home around midnight.
