New Trustee Sought For Island Fund

hugh town housesPeople interested in the welfare of elderly islanders are being encouraged to apply for a trustee vacancy on the Edward McDonald Trust.

Back in 1932, Mr McDonald’s will made provision for interest from his investments to pay for churchyard maintenance, the school and for shipwrecked mariners.

Over the years the beneficiaries have slightly changed. The school Samson trip receives some support and the Trust funds an annual Christmas gift given to the elderly.

If you’re appointed as a trustee you’ll have to attend three meetings each year to help fellow trustees decide how cash will be distributed within the community.

If you work, you’ll need to confirm that your employer will allow you time off to attend daytime meetings.

An islander with an understanding of issues that affect older people in Scilly is preferred.

You have one week, until 3rd August, to apply to the Town Hall for the vacancy.
