lifeboat May 2015The St Mary’s lifeboat was called out yesterday evening to a yacht, which got into difficulty approximately 10 miles north of Tresco.

Falmouth Coastguard said the Misdemeanor was heading for New Grimsby and had 4 people on board when it developed engine problems.

The relief lifeboat, Osier, was launched at 6.18pm under the command of Pete Hicks.

It reached the stricken yacht at 7.15pm. Conditions were poor and the crew had to contend with a fresh northerly wind gusting around force 7.

After putting a crew member on board, a line was attached and the stricken vessel was towed back to St Mary’s.
