Skybus Acquires Fourth Islander Aircraft

GE DIGITAL CAMERAThe Steamship Company has bought a new Islander plane. It boosts their fleet of the eight-seater aircraft to four.

The company also operates four of the larger Twin Otters.

Company Chief Executive Rob Goldsmith says the acquisition offers Skybus significant new air capacity and underlines their commitment to invest in strengthening links to Scilly and enhancing passenger service.

Rob says this summer is their biggest ever flying schedule and introducing an eighth aircraft gives Skybus, “even more flexibility to respond to demand.”

And their new plane has had an interesting past.

It’s featured in the forthcoming James Bond movie ‘Spectre’ set to be released in October.

You possibly won’t recognise it though – it was painted black for the film using a special rinse-off paint and given a new registration number for the flight sequence in the Alps, featuring Daniel Craig at the controls.

An aircraft ‘stunt-double’ using a mock-up was used for the ground action scenes.

This is the plane I flew back in from St Mary’s to Land’s End on the 30th of July!! Not its maiden flight, which would have been amazing but still, it’s 2nd, so still pretty cool !! ????
