Scilly Hailed As One Of Best Holiday Spots For Dog Owners

A national newspaper has promoted Scilly as one of the best places to go on holiday with a pet dog.

The Sunday Express shared the experience of journalist Victoria Gray, who stayed at Tregarthen’s with her two whippets.

She borrowed equipment from Pam Manning’s Creature Comforts service.

Pam rents a range of items, from baskets to bowls, to raise cash for the Vet Support Group and says in the last few years more accommodation providers have become pet friendly.

Pam says she’s had a bigger demand then ever this year and feels that hoteliers have finally woken up to the fact that dogs “don’t trash hotel bedrooms.”

She says there are more visitors bringing dogs to the islands and, although they’re restricted on the busier beaches in summer, she says they’re still welcome on all the coastal paths and at many local businesses.

Pam has even extended her range to include some unusual pet accessories like stair gates and lifejackets for boating.

She’s just provided a “huge” dog bed for a large Rhodesian ridgeback staying at Star Castle and the owners said the extra care their pet received actually made their holiday.

Yes – we encountered many dogs when we were in St Mary’s in May – and at times they were a nuisance, particularly on and off the boats. Sorry to be such a misery!!!

I find the same thing with people Val, sometimes they can be a real nuisance but I like them coming to visit the islands and generally wag my tail. (Even at those who aren’t so pleased to see me). Stanley the islands’ resident dalmatian xxxx

Ruby the terrier agrees 100%, so much so she narrated a book about it.

From the number of dogs encountered during the past three weeks , visitors are already very aware of this fact.

Our Jack Russell Tiny was so happy on Scilly that she sulked for a week when we came home!!!

And of course, Scilly is the best place for dogs too. Our 2 Cockapoos loved it when we all came in June. They loved going on the boats (we have pictures of their ears blowing in the wind), playing in the sea, going for walks and meeting other dogs.
