Seven boats raced over to Tresco on Sunday afternoon for the Scillonian Sailing Club’s annual ‘Tresco Tack.’

The entrants set off from Bacon Ledge before a downwind leg to The Crow, a beat up to Nut Rock and onto New Grimsby, where there was a nail biting finish.

Ian Sibley and Fran Clark were first in the 1958-built Redwing ‘Seagull.’ Keith and Ned Buchanan were just 20 seconds behind in ‘Shag.’

Third place was taken by James Fletcher and Sam Stephan.

Fran says numbers appeared to be down, possibly due to the weekend weather, and described conditions on the water as “lively.”

Fran’s fellow first-place winner Ian says it was, “the perfect way to spend a foggy July Sunday” and “great fun all round.”

The next club event is the ‘Round The Island’ race on 2nd August.

Well done those who defied the weather, I love seeing the yachts out, especially the redwings (sorry Jann!)

    Hi Jann,
No, it was not a closed shop. There was also an Enterprise, a Laser and Norfolk Oyster out there as well. The only thing that was closed was the weather – thick fog and no wind, half way round the course.

Would be nice to see other dinghy’s out other than Redwings, was it a closed shop?
