Autumn Walk Scilly Introduces Walk For Morpurgo Fans

The Autumn Walk Scilly Weekend will take place from 1st – 4th October 2015.

One new addition to the Walk Scilly Weekender is “Michael Morpurgo’s Bryher”, a walk that heads along the rugged southeast side of the island to locations that inspired this internationally-renowned author and self-confessed Scilly addict! Walkers will be able to appreciate some of the precise spots that are featured in Morpurgo’s books Why the Whales Came, The Sleeping Sword and Listen to the Moon.

Also expected to be popular is the Edible Seaweed Walk & Chef Demo on the stunning island of St. Martin’s – where participants will scramble rock pools, walk to meet the tide, and discover a world of nutritious sea vegetables on their way. Then it’s back to the Karma St. Martin’s for a cook up and taster of all the foraged delights.

Other Walk Scilly Weekend programme highlights include a Starry Skies Walk on St. Mary’s, Historical walks to the uninhabited islands of St. Helen’s and Samson; the old favourite Tresco Abbey Garden stroll, island Top to Toes and a special Scilly at Sunrise surprise. This year, by popular demand, an evening programme will run in tandem to the Walk Scilly Weekender. Opening the event on the evening of Thursday 1st October will be a Folk Night, incorporating a complimentary reception for all walkers, sponsored by Kier Group.

Islands’ Partnership Event Manager Zoe Parry says “This is our second Walk Scilly Weekend and we’ve packed a lot of variety into the three days to ensure that there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Tickets go on sale on Monday 13th July. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets for any of the walks should call 01720 424036
