Cricket: St Agnes v St Martin’s

cricket playersReport by Colin Daly

On a blustery Monday morning it is difficult to believe what a glorious day it was yesterday.

On this Sunday 5th July a St. Martin’s team set out for an interisland 25 over match with St. Agnes.

The home team won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. Daniel Goddard came out with Joe Benson and Daniel was going well until the overconfidence of youth tempted him to strike across the line of the ball and he was bowled out for 21.

  1. Smith joined Joe and they stayed there until the overs were used up – Smith 59* and Benson 92* for a total of 185 for 1.

After a great tea in St. Agnes’ beautiful new hall, St. Agnes set about this largish total, although it is a small ground.

Only Sam Hicks (21) and Tim (35) reached double figures. A total of 69 all out meant that it was a win for St. Martin’s.

Pausing only for sustenance at the Turks Head they made their way home glowing.
