Staff Cream Tea Event Raises Funds For Hospital

Patients receiving treatment at St Mary’s hospital will be a bit more comfortable in the future after staff organised an event last Thursday to help buy two special recliner chairs.

They sold cream teas and handmade goods, bringing in over £900 in just two hours.

Stalls included a raffle with prizes supplied by local businesses.

And staff, friends and family also sold handmade goods including knitted jumpers and cardigans for babies, jewellery, bags and hair slides.

Staff Nurse Ce Hicks, who led the event, said all the staff contributed their time, produce and effort with great enthusiasm.

She said it was a wonderful day and the sun shone for them.

The funds will be added to money already raised by the St Mary’s Community Hospital League of Friends to purchase the first recliner. The League is also paying for the second chair.

Hospital Matron Anita Bedford said the recliner armchairs will be used for the increasing number of clients having their routine IV therapies done at the hospital.

It’ll prevent them having to make the long and sometimes challenging trip to Treliske, which in the winter can take 2 or 3 days, said Anita.
