St Mary’s Open Gardens Scheme Starts Again This Weekend
We’re used to seeing spectacular public gardens in Scilly, like Tresco’s Abbey Gardens and Carreg Dhu. But for two days this summer, you’ll have a chance to view the best private gardens on St Mary’s.
The Inner Wheel is extending their popular Open Gardens scheme to offer two separate tours.
On Sunday, there’s a trail around five gardens in Hugh Town. Green-fingered youngsters will also be displaying their floral wheelbarrow at the Church Pavilion, where refreshments will be served.
And on Wednesday 8th July, four gardens around Holy Vale will open for tours for the first time. Drinks and cake will be on offer at the Vineyard.
Inner Wheel Member Jane Chiverton says locals love it, and that’s why they’re hosting the town trail on a Sunday for the first time this weekend, instead of Tuesday, when many people couldn’t make it.
You can buy your tickets now from the TIC at Porthcressa and there’s one pass that lets you access all areas.
Jane says you’ll have six hours to wander around and some people do make a day of it.
The event will raise money for breast cancer.
