New Winner For Tresco Triathlon
Around eighty people took part in the Tresco Triathlon yesterday.
The event started with a third-of-a-mile swim at Old Grimsby, followed by a 12-mile cycle then a 3-mile run.
Organiser says it could be extended by 268m to a sprint distance of 750m next year.
The fundraising event for Cancer Research UK was started by Adam and Algernon Dorrien Smith alongside Julie Smith, in memory of her husband Tony.
Julie says it was a great honour to be asked to start this year’s charity challenge and said Tony would have been there himself if he could.
First to finish was new St Mary’s resident Jack Plummer. He’s an experienced triathlete and finished in 1 hour and 7 minutes.
Jack says cycling used to be his best point but he’s equally good on in all three disciplines now. And he says he intends to take part again next year
Richard Hobbs helped arrange the triathlon. He’s hoping that each entrant will bring in £300 because that would mean almost £25,000 would go to the charity.
Richard has taken part as a competitor previously but says it’s “so much easier” organising the event.
