Former Island Resident On Epic Walk For Charity

Alistair MacNicholA former islander has given up work for six months so he can walk across Britain and raise £10,000 for the Macmillan cancer support charity.

Alistair MacNichol worked at St Mary’s Hall Hotel and the Council and featured on TV’s ‘An Island Parish’ when he lived in Scilly.

Each day between now and October he’s covering the 1,542 mile route from Cape Cornwall to Cape Wrath in Scotland.

He’s walking in memory of a friend who died from the disease.

Although he’s mostly walking alone, Alistair will be joined by another former Scilly resident, Dave Huddy or ‘Dungeon Dave’ who left the Star Castle for Dartmouth’s Britannia College where Alistair also works.

Al has only covered a short distance through Cornwall and Devon and says he’s already met some very kind people. A farmer who found him camping on his land didn’t mind and returned the next morning with a cooked breakfast.

And Alastair is considering writing about his journey.

He says he’s taking lots of photos on his iPhone and people are interested because he’s walking such an unusual route along the length of the country.
