Husky Wins 2015 Scilly Dog Show

dog show 2015 winner 1A Siberian husky that was just ‘skin and bones’ before being nursed back to health by its new owners has taken the Best in Show trophy in the 2015 Isles of Scilly Vet Support Group Dog Show.

Hank, a former rescue dog, won the star prize for owners Vivien and Steve Parkinson who are on holiday from the Cotswolds.

Show organiser Pam Manning told Radio Scilly that the dog was “superbly behaved” and had “blue eyes that looked straight through you.”

Hank’s owner Vivien claimed her pet had another special skill – he can talk – although Hank decided not to show off his unique talent when we turned on the microphone in front of him!

Islands’ Vet Heike Dorn said she was excited that a new breed to the event had won the overall prize.

The show also saw its first Afghan hound entrant.

156 entries aged between 3 months and 17 years competed in categories including Tricks, Handsomest Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Waggiest Tail and the dog that the judges, Cannon Paul Miller and Lynn Miller, ‘would want to take home.’

Pam is hoping that the weather turnaround will be reflected in profits for the event, which she says seemed busier than last year’s show.

Money raised provides equipment and facilities for the islands’ vet, which remain in the community. The state-of-the-art surgery was funded by the group’s efforts.
