Help Needed For Heroes Gig Crew

help for heroes gig crewIslanders are being asked to help find suitable accommodation so a crew of injured ex-servicemen can return to Scilly for the 2016 World Pilot Gig Championships.

The Help for Heroes Gig Rowing Team stayed on Tresco for this year’s event, the first time they’ve entered the competition.

But Team Manager Greig Phillips says the journey to and from St Mary’s each day proved taxing for them, given their various ailments.

They’re looking for somewhere to stay on St Mary’s for 12 to 14 people, not too far from Town Beach.

Greig says it’s proving tough because so many teams rebook their accommodation as soon as the Championships have finished.

He says the men, “are house-trained and well behaved” and just need somewhere to stay relatively close to the action so they can give their all to the competition without having to worry about the toll of the journey to and from St Mary’s each day.

“The amount of effort they have to put in because of their various injuries and illnesses makes for a quiet night after racing. Somewhere accessible where they can prepare a meal, have a shower and sleep in a comfortable bed is all they need,” says Greig.

If you have availability for next year’s championships with a few days either side please contact Greig on 01752 562179 or email greig.phillips@helpforheroes.org.uk with details of location, amenities and cost.
