Free Aneurysm Screening Returns To Scilly

The NHS AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) Screening Service is returning to St Mary’s Health Centre on Thursday 9th July to screen men in their 65th year. Abdominal aortic aneurysms occur when the main blood vessel from the heart weakens and ruptures.
It’s more common in men as they get older and the NHS is now offering a simple test to detect if you’re at risk. The screening is a simple ultrasound check of the tummy, it will take around 10 minutes, results are given at the appointment and it can be lifesaving says Tracey Ellis the NHS AAA Screening Manager. They have some spare appointments available on this date and any man born before 1st April 1945 who would like to be screened can arrange this by contacting 01752 764859.
