Islands’ Rotarians Hoping For Big Turn Out On Bank Holiday

rotary funday aug 2011The weather is looking good for this year’s Bank Holiday Funday on Holgate’s Green.

It’s organised jointly by the Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel, and Tony says it’s very important for the club, because it’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year.

Last year the annual May Bank Holiday event raised £2,512.

Tony Dingley is hoping the forecast will help the volunteers match or exceed that amount

Tony says last year’s weather was reasonable, but the year before that, it “tipped down with rain” and the event had to be cancelled at the last minute.

This year money will be donated to the Nepal Earthquake charity and to Shelterbox, which the club has supported for many years.

Tony says the volunteers will give up most of their holiday weekend to arrange the stalls and attractions and there’ll be a great deal of preparatory work on Sunday.
