Cornwall Air Ambulance Launch Novel Fundraising Effort In Scilly

Cornwall Air Ambulance 2015Young islanders will be able to show their support for Cornwall Air Ambulance with temporary tattoos.

The charity will be in a tent on Holgate’s Green as part of the Rotary Club’s Bank Holiday Funday, following on from the success of their Gig Weekend fundraising.

Over the first May Bank Holiday, their street collection and raffle raised almost £700.

Air Ambulance Ambassador Helen Sams hopes the new tattoos, on sale for the first time on Monday, will raise thousands for their lifesaving missions.

On Monday youngsters will also be encouraged to ‘Create an Animal for the Scilly Zoo’ with their creative entries being judged at 3.30pm.

Helen is also selling raffle tickets for 75 prizes including meals and Scillonian tickets.

The fundraising continues on Monday evening when the raffle winners will be announced during a Family Fortunes-style quiz from 7.30pm at the Old Town Inn.

Helen says Cornwall Air Ambulance gets no central government funding and relies solely on charitable donations to keep flying.

10% of their missions fly to Scilly and it costs between £1,500 and £2,000 per visit.

Helen hopes all locals and visitors will give something. “A penny from the many far exceeds a pound from the few,” she says.
