Police Investigating Possible Link Between Burglaries

police station 4St Mary’s police are investigating a series of six burglaries and thefts on St Mary’s that took place on Tuesday.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says thieves forced entry to locked premises at Porthmellon and also stole from two honesty boxes.

Cash has been taken in most cases but a tool was removed following one break in.

Colin says he’d normally expect that number of incidents over a six-month period, not 24-hours, and this is very unusual.

And while they took place around the island, he says the grouping means there could be a link between them.

No homes were targeted, only commercial buildings, including two sheds and Speros restaurant at Porthmellon.

Colin wants you to call the police if you see anything suspicious, especially anyone hanging around a shed or commercial property.

But he’s urging you not to call the station or leave an answerphone message. You should ring 101 or 999 so officers can react immediately.

Colin says people should also report every incident of theft or burglary so the police can gather evidence.

He says he and PC Mat Crowe are taking the incidents very seriously and working extra hours to ensure they can react appropriately.
