Police Brought In To Investigate Alleged Assault

police station 4Police on St Mary’s are investigating an alleged assault. A team of six staff, including a Scene of Crime Officer, were drafted in to Scilly yesterday to assist the island police as enquiries continue into an incident reported at the weekend.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says the investigation is of “sufficient complexity” to require support from extra officers.

A local male is said to have required treatment for his injuries, which have been described as non life threatening.

It follows a disturbance late on Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Yesterday three men, who are all local residents and some of whom are under 18, were taken into police custody and questioned. They have since been released on bail.

Sgt Taylor wants islanders who witnessed anything in or around Hugh Town to contact him.

He also wants to know whether you have read any accounts of the events on social media and if you have, he’s keen to talk to you to find out what has been said.
