Scilly’s longest-established band has a special one-off gig at the Scillonian Club tomorrow night.

Former members Nicky Watts, Gwyn Green and Dave Parr will join the current Steamband line-up and some of the visiting musicians haven’t performed with the group since the 1970s.

Vocalist Terry Ward says these men are musically very gifted. The original members will perform their own set at 8pm with the current band line-up following on at around 9pm.

Terry says they’ve tried to add new songs to their set but members weren’t too happy with the sound so they’ll probably stick to their popular Blues/Rock and Chuck Berry influenced repertoire.

He says people seem to enjoy the old stuff the most anyway.

Terry says it was appropriate that the members should perform together as earlier this week they attended the scattering of Roy Duncan’s ashes at sea.

Roy, the drummer, was a band member from the early days.

The Steamband first performed in the mid-1960s using a number of names including the Final Selection and Which Key, a musical reference rather than anything related to boating.

Terry says there’ll be a number of older islanders who will welcome the chance to see the line-up back together.
