Men and women affected by their experience of military service are being offered sailing courses in Scilly.

The ‘Turn To Starboard’ charity is in Scilly this week in their schooner Spirit of Falmouth.

The attractive boat was originally called the Spirit Of Fairbridge when the Prince’s Trust donated it to them.

Chief Executive Shaun Pascoe says they’ll be in Scilly regularly undertaking their Yachtmaster training course for ex forces personnel who have been affected physically and mentally by challenging duties in places like Afghanistan.

It’s hoped the course will help them to reintegrate back into civilian life and get them a job.

Shaun says this week’s trip is a ‘recce’ to assess the best locations for future training around St Mary’s, the Western Isles and Tresco.

They’ll be back for gig weekend, bringing over the Help For Heroes rowing crew and their support team.

Shaun says anyone who wants to take a look on board is very welcome.
