‘Katie’ The Bus Finds New Owner With Scilly Connection

katie tour busThe popular vintage tour bus Katie has found a new home not too far from the islands. And the 1948-built vehicle will retain a Scilly connection.

Glynne Lucas decided to sell the 28-seater last year to a Gretna Green businessman. But the plan fell through after lengthy delays in getting the bus off the island by landing craft.

It’s now been bought by Simon Hendra, who owns the Bordeaux shop in Hugh Town, especially for his daughter’s wedding in July.

She’s also called Katie.

Simon says he couldn’t find an old bus that wasn’t booked on the day so searched online and ‘Katie’ came up on Google. He say’s it “was obviously fate with a name like that!”

Katie will first be employed to ferry people to the wedding in Feock and then the bus will be used for private pleasure trips.

Simon says she’s cheap to insure and you don’t need a special licence if you’re not carrying fee-paying passengers.

Glynne says it’s only fair that the “old girl” is sent away and based on their discussions, he feels that Simon is the ideal man to take the bus on.

She was due to leave the islands yesterday, but unfortunately her departure has been delayed yet again by shipping.
