Scilly Gets Go Ahead For Royal British Legion Branch

armed forces day 2011There’s enough local support from volunteers for Scilly to form its own Royal British Legion Branch.

Islanders responded to an appeal by Smudge Smith last week and there was a good turn out at Thursday’s group formation meeting at the Masonic Hall.

Additional would-be members who couldn’t attend sent on their apologies.

Two mainland officials from the Cornwall region attended the meeting and the county branch has backed Scilly’s plans, which will now be ratified by the national headquarters.

But there’ll be a short delay setting it up because HQ is rearranging its computer systems this month.

Smudge says they are just waiting to be issued a branch number then the formalities like opening a bank account can be arranged.

Smudge is Chairman with Richard Larn serving as his Vice-Chairman. Jenny Bagnall is Secretary and David Duncan has been elected Treasurer. Tim Stone and David Hawkins complete the committee.
